This project was completed as a final project for UT’s Fashion and Desire course taught by Lydon K. Gill. The course teaches the historical contexts tied to fashion, particularly historical and contemporary styles in the African Diaspora. For our final, we explored the “Afrofuturism” aesthetic by interviewing Osborne Macharia, a Kenyan photographer who centers his work around identity, culture, and his take on Afrofuturism. While our team was limited, we worked to highlight the preferences of our model Hailey Scott, who granted us the space to hear her ideas and work collaboratively to reimagine our own version of this aesthetic.
